Spiritual moments

This past Sunday, I had the privilidge to substitute my friend Michelle's primary class. As I was converted when I was 17, this was my first real Primary experience. Even though I taught Grade 1 in China, it has been many years since I worked with older children. The kids were great - the class was nothing special. It took a lot of effort to try to stay on topic with a bunch of chatty 7 year olds :) But, the most beautiful thing happened. When we gathered together for the last 15 minutes of primary, one of my students, Tessa, asked to go to the bathroom. I let her go, but she came back seconds later. I looked over and she had her head hung low and she was clearly upset. When I asked if she was OK, she began to cry, so we went for a little walk. When we got over to an empty classroom, we went in and I asked if she wanted to talk about it. Between sniffles, she shook her head no. Then, I asked if she wanted a hug. She nodded her head yes and came in for a big hug. Quite honestly, it was one of the most beautiful hugs I have ever experienced. She held me tight, and with purpose. Slowly, her sniffles went away and then mine came. She pulled away, saw that I was now crying, and then squeezed me again harder. It was like heaven.

How privilidged and blessed we are to have the opportunity to serve children! I am grateful for the power of love and for the purity of children, that they can share it when they feel safe. Christ teaches us to 'become like a little Child', and I now know a little more about what He meant. I love Tessa and I will never forget her hug.

Christmas Eve 2012

Both Doug and I had to work Christmas Eve until 3, but once we were done we heaed down to Fernie for the holidays. Christmas Eve was pretty relaxing. We did our usual Sedrovic tradition on stuffing ourselves full of chinese food from The Ginger Beef, and then we just hung around and visited. We were abel to get the kids down at a decent time and fortunatly they slept all night! Here are some pictures from the evening

Uncle AJ and Robbie having a snuggle

Colouring with Grandma and Uncle AJ

This picture makes Nola look so big! I am sure it has more to do with GG being in the background, because GG is just so tiny, but still. I can't believe she'll be three soon...

Robbie had a blast being pulled around in the wagon!

It looked so fun, Nola wanted a turn. Too bad she's a big girl now - when she sat inside, the wheels popped off!

For a good 20 minutes, Nola and Uncle AJ threw this bear back and forth to one another. Nola was having the time of her life, and we were all having the time of our life watching her!

Opening Christmas jammies!

Grandma reading "'Twas the Night Before Christmas"

Getting Santa's treat ready. We are to reassure Nola more than once, that she will not have to see Santa. Poor little dear is terrified of him!

Daunting...

Is it just me, or does everyone find the "Christmas" post to be so daunting! I have like a zillion pictures...and its gonna take forever to sort through them.

Ugh. Me and my first world problems.

First Prayer

Tonight, my heart truely melted.

Our darling Nola said her first prayer all by herself. It went like this,

"Dear Heavenly Father. Thank you for today. Thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Robbie and Elmo Christmas. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen."

This may not sound all exciting to you, but this has been one of the most beautiful moments so far in being a mother. Nola was honest in her prayer, thanking Him for the things she enjoyed today. I'm not gonna lie, I had a pretty big cry afterwards.

We love you Nola, and we hope you will continue to turn to the Lord in honest prayer.

Homemade Christmas 2012!

A few months back, I was chatting with my friend Char and we got on the topic of homemade Christmas. I absolutely loved the idea, however I have always lacked a certiain confidence when it comes to crafting. I figured I'd never be able to do it, so I just left it at that. But, as Christmas drew nearer, I had a stonger and stronger desire to do it. After making some playmats for the kids (you'll see below) my confidence grew and I decided to go for it! So here it is, all the things I made this year!

I do have to say that although this was a lot of work, it has been such a beautiful experience. I most certainly felt the spirit of Christmas and felt love for my family through my service. I challenged myself and am proud of myself.

Char asked me if I would ever do it again...well, I think I would do it again when my kids are older, so they can make stuff too, but boy, was this ever a lot of work!

Getting in his car seat. Poor guys is too light for a big-boy car seat, so he's still in his bucket seat.
Being tired.
Being hungry.

Robbie is such a special spirit. Everytime I look at him, I see heaven. He is funny, sensitive and packed full of quirky personality. He is my little Duff and I thank heaven he's mine :)

Nola, Jan 2013

Nola is such a doll. Never have I met a child who is so in touch with her emotions and so empathetic to others. She is so very sweet, even though I have seen a lot more sass from her lately. I am so blessed to be her Mother!
