Christmas Day and Boxing Day

On Christmas Day, we stopped by Nicole and Dallin's for a quick visit with the Walton's and then headed over to my mom and dad's for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It was fun - nice and relaxing. Dougie had to work boxing day, but he made it back in the evening to have a big supper. AJ and Sarah came out on boxing day too. We all were totally spoiled, as always.

Christmas Morning

For the first time ever, we were home for Christmas morning. It was PERFECT!!!

Even before going out to see the Christmas tree and stockings, the kids came into bed with Doug and I and we had a nice long snuggle. Once John was awake, we all went into the living room to check things out. The kids were so excited to see that Santa ate the cookies they left out and drank the milk. As you can see form the pictures, John helped 'clean up' Santa's left overs! Haha, he grabbed the cookie crumbs as fast as he could and tried to get the last drops of milk from the cup.

We had a beautifully modest Christmas this year. Doug and I fill one another's stockings with gifts and that's all we get from one another. We have a $50 limit, so we really do get a lot! This year I got a new rolling pin, some tea and a new spoon rest. Doug got a new Incubus t-shirt and a work survival kit. The kids get stockings filled with treats from the dollar store. We also allow the children to shop for one another and their grandparents at the dollar store. This may be my FAVOOURITE part of the holidays. We allow them to pick whatever they want, even if it is totally ridiculous! Papa got a little branch with a bell on it from Robbie this year and GG got a sucker. Oh, its too funny.

Doug and I decided to just buy one gift this year for all three kids. We bought them the Fischer Price nativity and they all loved it! It was so nice to just have a couple gifts to open and enjoy together.

For breakfast we had waffles with chocolate fondue. It was crazy delicious! John even licked the chocolate off of his highchair tray!

It was the most perfect morning of my life. I love being with my family.

Christmas Eve

What an absolutely wonderful evening!!

For the first time ever, we had Christmas at home this year. Everything about it was totally wonderful! For Christmas Eve, we hosted a little get together with some friends. Sam, Melissa and the girl came over. Ian, Myrium and Astrid, some friends we met through Sam and Melissa, came too. We had a feast! Melissa and Myrium are AMAZING cooks!! Melissa made a hot dog Christmas wreath, which sounds pretty ghetto, but as you can see from the picture it is a work of art! Myrium made homemade pavlova which was to die for! We all ate them until our stomachs hurt!

We re-enacted the Nativity, which was a highlight from the holidays for me. Nola was Mary, Doug was Joseph, John was baby Jesus, Melissa, Elizabeth and Robbie were donkeys, Eleanor and Astrid were Angels, and Sam and I were the wise men. Myrium acted as the manger for a wiggly baby Jesus :)

After, all the kids opened their Christmas jammies and we set a little theatre up for them down stairs to watch the Grinch. Us adults were going to play games while the kids watched the show, but once we got downstairs, we all settled down for the movie. It totally put us all in the Christmas spirit! Not long after the movie started, the kids started to get riled up and turned the theatre into a bouncy house!! We brought them up to try to quiet them down with a Christmas book, however that back fired. All the kids were screaming out the words to the 12 days of Christmas!!

It was the most perfect evening. Christmas is about being with the people you love - both family and friends. I hope we can spend time with our dear friends every Christmas :)

Part of our Christmas traditions is to make a ginger bread family. WE had so much fun!
