My Nola

There is NOTHING more I could ask for in a child.

She is so loving, tender and compassionate. She hugs, kisses and snuggles me all day. She will crawl up on the couch, wrap her arms around me and give me a big squeeze. She will hold my face in her hands, look me deep in the eyes, and tell me she loves me. She will kiss me, right on the lips. She will lay beside me and gently rub my arm. She recognizes when I am angry, and says 'Its okay Mommy.' When I tell her she made me feel sad, she says 'I sorry Mommy.' She colours me pictures. She picks me flowers. She calls me her 'Best Friend.' She sings with me and for me. She asks me to kiss every single boo-boo, no matter how big or small. She asks me to read her 'puppy's book', every night before bed. Then, she asks me to red it again. She wants me. She needs me. She is my baby.

As mothers, we spend too much time talking about what our children take from us, not what our children give to us. I think if we took the time to see all they gave us, we would see them in a whole new light. I know I have.

I love you Nola, and that goes much deeper than words. You are my kindred spirit, my bestest little friend, my daughter. Always know that I will kiss every boo-boo you bring to me, and mean it.

Poor little Mouse.

On our way into the grocery store this morning, this is the conversation I had with Nola.

Nola: 'Mommy, the mouse is crying.'
Me: 'Really? What Mouse?'
Nola: 'The mouse is crying. She don't feel good.'
Me: 'Oh no! Poor little Mouse.'
Nola: 'Yes. Mouse going to the doctor.'
Me: 'Well, that is a good place for a mouse to go when she doesn't feel good.'
Nola: ' See doctor and Mouse feel all better. Snuggles make Mouse feel better too. Yay Mouse!'

I have no idea where this came from, but it honestly blew me away. I cannot believe how much Nola is growing and learning. A child's brain is a work of art. I am so proud of you, Nola! Thank you for sharing your story with me!

9 month stat!

Weight: 17 lbs 11 oz
Diaper size: 3
Clothing: 9 month sleepers and shirts, 3 month pants
Teeth: 4! Top two and bottom two:)

Favourites:
FOOD - banana baby food! If he was allowed, it would be the only thing he ate!
TOY - bells, the guitar (even though I am doing my best to show him it is NOT a toy)
SONG - 'My Best Friend' Nola and I sing it to him and he gets SO happy!
ACTIVITY - trying to stand up by holding the blinds. Yay...not.

Loves:
- moving! He takes after his sister - he is all over the place! He spends most of his day crawing around the house. He's my little explorer :)
- bed time snuggles. With Nola, I was so scared that if I rocked her to sleep, she would be dependant on me to get to sleep each night, so I always laid her down awake. With Robbie, I relish the time we get to snuggle together, and by the look on his face, he does too :)
- squawking! He can be one loud little dude! He loves to squawk at Nola while they play, and Nola always informs me that Robbie is telling her a story :)
- bottle time. He LOVES his bottle!
- Nola. It kills me to watch them together. They have so much fun!

Dislikes:
- getting his diaper changed. He arches his back, squeezes his legs together and twists. These are all actions that make changing a poopy bum VERY difficult!
- getting his face and hands wiped. He cries every single time.

What's new:
- he has two new teeth! He has just cut his top front teeth. By the way they are coming in, he looks like he's going to have a great big gap between them! Haha, it's a good thing he's super cute ;)
- he has been walking with his walker toy. No, no, not one of those illegal walkers, but a push-toy on wheels. He can go anywhere with that thing! He has yet to stand on his own, which is fine by me! He has plenty of time for that!
- he has been sick. Poor little guy had a rough June. He got croup, which pretty much beat the living day-lights out of him.
- he is starting to feed himself!
- he's getting a personality :) He's at that stage where he knows he's funny, so he is a total ham!

Mommy loves:
- bed time snuggles, as mentioned previously.
- the way he scrunches up his nose. He looks so cute, it makes me want to squeeze him to death!!
- feeding him his bottle. Quite often he won't finish the whole bottle in one sitting, so when he gets full, he pops the bottle out of his mouth and sticks his tongue out at me, all while flashing me a cheeky smile. It's to die for.
- watching him explore. Seriosuly, this kid is everywhere! If I don't keep my eye on him, who knows where he'll end up! Last week, I looked all over the house and I couldn't find him. Finally, I heard a 'boing' noise from the bathroom, and there he was, sitting the the dark, with the door shut, playing with the door stopper. Quite often I will find him under the kitchen table, eating any scraps he can find!
- watching the kids play together. I fills my heart to no end watching them play together, especially when they laugh together. It makes everything worth while.

Robbie, I cannot believe you are 9 months old. In only 3 short months, you will be a year! I love you so much and am so grateful to be your Mommy. Love you Duff!

Camping in Canmore

The weekend that we ran our race in Canmore, we ended up camping there. It was...hmmm, what is the word? Well, we had lots of fun during the day. Nola and Robbie were in heaven - they had Grandma and Papa all to themselves!!! They had way too much fun with them. Of course, Grandma and Papa spoiled them rotten and it warmed Doug and I's hearts to watch. The night time...lets just say it was our first and will be our last camping trip this year. The night before our race, we slept a total of three hours.

It was quite chilly, so we bundled the kids up good for our walk. They looked so cute!

Since Nola was awake and screaming most of the night before, she slept for 4 hours in Grandma and Papa's car!

Eating some crackers

Nola was stuffing spoons down her diaper....I don't know why.

Book club

A highschool friend of mine, Jesse, is a writer and has an amazing blog. On her blog, she challenged, and successfully completed, reading 25 books before her 25th birthday. After she read each book, she'd talk a little bit about each one - what she liked, what she didn't. Long story short, she has totally inspired me! Since I am turning 25 in less than a month, I can't follow exactly what she has done, however I have joined a book club!

My patriarchal blessing states that I should strive to read good books, which can be really challenging to find, so I am very pleased that our Relief Society is heading this book club!

The first book we read was 'The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society' by Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows

The verdict? I loved it! The book is written as a series of letters, written between an author, Juliet, living in England, and the members of a literary society on the Guernsey Islands, follow the Second World War. It was funny, touching, informative and very enjoyable. I definatly recommend it!

The next book on our list?

'The Little Prince' by Antoine De Saint-Exupery

Can't wait!

My best friend

I don't know anyone better than you,
You're my best friend

Funny and friendly, faithful and true,
You're my best friend!

Because you know what I like, you know how I feel,
Know when I'm happy or blue, hey!

We're just as close as a sock and a shoe,
and if there's nothing to do,
I want to do it with you,

Because you're my best friend!

A trip to the mall

On our way home from Canmore, we stopped at the South Centre mall in Calgary for a break. We actually had a lot of fun!

The kids played in the play place.

Nola threw some coins into the wishing well.

She then had a temper tantrum on the floor.

Daddy saved the day with a shoulder ride, and some shopping at the Disney Store!

Nothin' better than playing with GG

We love GG. Isn't she just the cutest?

I. Am. A Robot.

A few weeks ago, Dustin, Simone and Adam came for a visit. It was SO awesome to spend some time with them! They are the kind of friends that even if you don't see each other for a year, you can pick up right where you left off. We sure love them!

One night, the kids dumped the toys out of the buckets and decided to put them on their heads. They ran around saying, "I. Am. A Robot." They were hilarious! Then, they played bumper buckets. As you can tell from the pictures, it was alot of fun. :)
