Medicine Hat time!

This past weekend we went up to the Hat. Yay!!! We just love us some Megan and Matty time.  We headed out around 5pm to make it by 7pm to get some pictures done in Kin Coulee Park. Meg got some amazing shots and I can't wait to see them when she is finished editing. Meg is the 'Me' in the 'MeKa Studios' of Medicine Hat and her and Kari are very good at what they do. Not only are the pics great, but it was actually a lot of fun! Pictures are daunting to me and Doug, but it was really great. After, we headed back to their house for some Chinese food and to get ready for bed. Before bed, Matty sat at the table with Rob and made him his very own 'Sword of Truth'. Matt said he got one when he was a kid and he still has it, so he wanted to do it for the kids in his Primary class.  He had an extra so he made it with Rob. I am not going to lie, I had to extend a lot of effort NOT to tear up when I watched them. It was so darling! Matty helped Rob pick put jewels and glue them on. Once the jewels were on, they would both blow on them to help them dry. Rob was in heaven! What a gift it is to witness family bonding.

Once all the littles were in bed, we settled down to watch The Avengers. Ames fell asleep in 30 seconds and Orin was not too far behind her. Jax was at the movies with friends, so we turned off the show and us adults headed out to the hot tub. It was so perfect - relaxing and visiting. So good, in fact, that we stayed up until 2am!! Nola and Rob slept great, but John had a little pow wow from 2-3:30am.

The next mornin we headed off to church. What a very special experience!   Orin was able to pass the sacrament and while he was doing it Nola turned to me and whispered 'Orin is being like Jesus!' It was such a special moment - she was absolutely right!! We were able to stay for the whole three hours! John did great in nursery, Nola went to Ami's primary classes and Rob sat on Meg's lap for all of Sunday School and Relief Society. After church, Doug and Jax had some time to visit just the two of them downstairs, Ames played with the kids in the yard while Matty BBQd and Meg, Orin and I cooked in the kitchen. So many memories made! I love spending time with Orin - we are kindred spirits. After dinner, Ames and Orin switched duties and Ames came into the kitchen with me and we plated the strawberry shortcake. So many laughs with that girl!! We get so weird together and I love it!! We pretended we were on 'Chopped' and then some how that turned into us singing 'do you want to build a snowman?' Haha. So perfect. The kids were starting to get squirrelly, so we headed home.

Most perfect weekend ever. Ever. I know I have said it before, but we have such a special bond with the Mays. The Spirit is SO strong at their house...you can't help but feel welcomed and loved. The kids are such a light. I am so madly and deeply in love with each of them...all of my nieces and nephews, in fact. We always have the best conversations with Meg and Matt. We share the same core beliefs and have the same goals, however we have different ideas and points of view. Our conversations are always deep and get you thinking. We respect one another and can talk about the tough stuff, which we don't get to do with many people. With them, we are on the same path. Jaxon, Orin and Ami are the only cousins my kids have as examples in the church. Of course, this doesn't make them any better or worse than the other cousins, it's just different...and special. My kids can watch them go on missions, marry in the temple, and follow the path we hope so dearly that they will find peace and joy on. Meg and Matt encourage our kids to pray and talk to them about the scriptures and the prophet.  Again, a gift.

I am a convert to our church.  I have discovered the truth of God by myself and it has been beautiful, but if I were to be completely honest, it is also heart wrenching. The truths that I have been taught, the things that bring me so much peace, joy, clarity, strength, conviction, and determination are not shared with my family....my family. I don't get to ask my dad about what I am learning in the gospel, I don't get to see my brother exercise the priesthood, I don't get to hold my moms hand while in the temple. And truthfully, it's hard. I do respect my families beliefs as they respect mine and it is beautiful. The mutual love, respect, patience and tolerance we have with one another is awe inspiring, but of course there is a part of me that wishes we all were on the same page. That's what's so special about Megan and Matt. We are on the same page and it really makes all the difference.

Fernie time!

Last week the kiddies and I headed down to Fernie to visit GG, Auntie and Uncle. It was great! The kids traveled pretty good and when we got into town we went straight over to A&W with GG for some chicken and fries. The kids ate great and were very excited when Uncle showed up! Then we went back to GGs and Auntie showed up - more excitement! AJ and Sar could only have a short visit, so once they left we headed to the park. I love going to the Rotary Park - brings back so many memories. The boys had a blast playing on the train and Nola ran around on the play equipment with the 'big kids' who were there from the school. GG got right into it - going for a ride on the train and being the conductor. Each and everytime I am with that woman I love her a little bit more :).  After the park we went to DQ for an ice cream and then headed home. The kids traveled great again, but I was SO tired! I had to call my mom and chat so I wouldn't fall asleep.

All in all, another beauty day with my family. Man, life is good.

Busted

The other day I came into my room and saw pen all over my dresser. I looked firmly at Nola and Rob and asked who did it. Nola says 'Robbie! And I have proof!' She then shows me this...

Haha!! She is too smart :)

Goofballs!!

I love all my little goofballs :)

Summer!!!

Ok, maybe this post title is a little premature, but yesterday was such an amazingly hot day!! After work, Dougie and I went through our camping stuff in the backyard, and since it was so hot, we set up the sprinkler and pool for the kids. Nola was all over the pool, Rob played with the sprinkler and John John was thrilled he had the whole playhouse to himself!

I am so excited for summer!!! Bring it on!!!

Fun at Grandma and Grandpas

So yes, my life is awesome.

I work every Monday and the kids get to spend the day at Grandma and Grandpa's! They LOVE being with their grandparents and it's no wonder why!! These are the pics my mom texted me from last Monday.

What am amazing gift for my children!! How we love all the special time we get with our family!!

Last week, Nola got to go on a special sleep over date with Grandma - they planted Grandmas flower beds! Here's some pics of Nola planting. Look how big she is! Love you girl!

Girls night!

Last night, Eleanor and Bit had their dance recital! Melissa got some tickets for Nola and I to go last year and we both were excited to go again this year! Eleanor was in quite a few routines this year and she did so well!! Nola was so excited to watch her. When Eleanor was on stage, Nola would shout out 'That's my friend! That's my girl!' After intermission, we went and sat by the stage and when Eleanor had her mermaid routine, she saw Nola and they were so adorable!! Nola would do the dance moves in her chair and they waved at each other like crazy.  Again, so unbelievably adorable!!!! Bit had one routine and she was a bumble bee - way too sweet! Those girls are to die for.

It was such a special night, for many reasons. I love mommy-Nola nights. It's great to be able to spend time I getter just us too. During intermission, we went and played hide and seek around the Yates, and then she showed me her dance routine, which she made up in the spot :) Nola is getting so big and I am very proud of her. She is beautiful, polite and full of life! I cherish our time together.

Another reason why last night was so special was because it was with the Irwins. Growing up, I did not have any cousins...Not a single one. What I did have, however, were real, close friends. I had playmates and their parents, who over time, became my 'cousins' and 'aunts and uncles'. It is such a special thing for me to see the beautiful friendship forged between Nola and Eleanor. I can honestly see how much the love each other. They want to be with one another, to cheer each other on, to play, dance, sing, learn, grow and to just plain be. While driving home, Nola said 'I am so grateful to have 'Nelnor as my best friend. I think Heavenly Father wanted us to be best friends.' I couldn't agree more, little darling :)

And then there is Melissa...I don't even know what exactly to say. She very well may be one of the greatest things that has happened to me in my adult life.  Oh the gift of a real friend - a true friend. One who does not cut me down, but lifts me up. One who is not jealous, but encouraging. One who I can swear in front of, cry eyes out to, laugh with until I pee, or can sit next to in complete silence. One I can share what I am really going through, who I can be honest with, without fear of judgment or criticism. One who can put me in my place when I'm being an idiot. One with whom we can share our testimonies, where we can learn and grow together in our search for truth, peace, light and hope. One who I can trust. One who respects me, and I her.

Melissa, I love you with such a special part of my heart. Thank you for making all the difference in my life. And thank you for inviting me and my family into your life.

PS  we should do a dance routine together in next years recital, set to the hymns ;) Love you!!

Fav phone pics - the kids together

More phone pics! There really is nothing sweeter than watching your kids play together and enjoy one another.

How truly privileged I am to be their mother :)
