A day at Russell Farms

Connie. Oh Connie, where do I even begin?!

Connie Russell is our new Relief Society president in our ward. I have known Connie ever since we moved into the ward 7 years ago. We've always said 'hi' at church, chit-chatted at activities and I have LOVED and appreciated her in my Sunday School class over the past 3 years as she is a true scriptorian. All in all, she is a top-notch gal. These past couple months of my life have been, hmmm...turbulent? I think that word fits. As I have had to reach out to the Bishop and the Relief Society for support, she has become aware of my current situation and has literally jumped, head first, into rescuing me. She texts me almost daily, checks in with Doug, see's if I need anything and just straight up loves on me. She is an angel.

Shortly after Christmas, she invited the kids and I down for an afternoon on her farm. It was truthfully one of the most memorable and beautiful days I have had in a long time. When we got there, Dale took the kids and I for a ride in the side-by-side down by the river. It was cold, frosty and perfect. The river reminded me so much of my childhood. Oh, how my heart yearns for the forest. The kids were simultaneously over-excited and in awe. Once back to the house, we build a fire outside to roast hot dogs for lunch. John stayed with Connie and I to tend the fire while Dale took Nola and Rob in the tractor to feed the horses. While the big kids were gone, I rocked John in my arms by the fire and he fell asleep. That kid has not slept in m arms since he was an infant!! I sat in the snowy lawn chair, with my baby in his snow gear, sound asleep in my arms. When Connie noticed, she just let me be. I rocked him, stared off into the majesty of their land and silently wept. I was so happy.

I laid John down in the house and came back outside to find the big kids at the stable. They had collected eggs from the chicken coop and were getting ready to ride one of Dale's horses. Nola was on cloud 9!!

After lunch, the kiddos were cold so we headed into the house. For anyone who has been to the Russell's, you know how warm and inviting their home is. Its perfection. Connie put a show on for the kids, got them electric blankets and hot chocolate (she was totally in Grandma mode!!) Once the kids were settled, we sat in her living room and chatted for hours. We opened up about all sorts of stuff and really got to knoe and understand one another better. It was a sacred and special time. Before I knew it, it was 4pm and I had to get on the way home. She sent each of us off with a little gift, a dozen eggs and a warm heart.

Connie, I have never seen someone fulfill their calling as you have for me. You literally left the comfort of your own life and rescued me. I will never, ever be able to express my gratitude for that. You exemplify the truth that 'the errands of angels are given to women'. Thank you for all you do, especially this sacred day of memories for me and my kiddos.
